Now, Gund have just released Alfie Extra Large (36″ / 91cm) and Alfie Jumbo (60″ / 152cm). These super-sized versions still retain all the innocent charm of the original Gund Alfie, they’re just even more huggable.
I cannot believe I didn’t notice this when the song was released, especially as I’m a big fan of Muse, but I saw the video for the song “Uprising” on their website. Towards the end of which teddy bears rise up from the ground to destroy the miniature city, a la the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters.
Then you take a look at the artwork for the single…teddy bears everywhere…
At the Harrogate Home & Gift fair in July 2010, I saw a number of luxury soft toys from the French manufacturer Histoire D’Ours (Bear Story). They offer some amazingly soft, luxury teddy bears and plush toys.
Some animals that took my fancy were the Seams family (horse, cat and mouse), all of which are available in small and large sizes.
There’s also a really cute set of hippos and elephants. Sadly the giant versions are not available in the United Kingdom. Both the hippo and elephants come in collectors boxes, adding a nice touch. (When I got home, I discovered a similar small mammoth, that comes in an even fancier mammoth shaped box).
Histoire D’Ours also offer 4 sizes (25cm, 35cm, 50cm and 80cm) of teddy bears. These teddies are super soft, luxury bears and are available in three colours: ivory, brown and beige.
Gund Philbin Bear: If you’re looking for a cute and cuddly teddy bear as a present, for an upcoming birthday or Christmas – why not take a look at the new Philbin Bear from Gund? Available in two sizes (13″/33cm, and 18″/45.75cm, with sitting heights of 10″/25.5cm and 13″/33cm respectively) and two colours (chocolate and cream – or is it white chocolate?) that gives you four adorable teddies to choose from! Sure to put a big smile on any child’s face (or collector’s, of course)…
With distinctive paw pads (contrasting colours with embroidered edges) these new bears really stand out. Made from super soft Gund plush, these cute chaps have large heads and big round tums.
Both sizes of bear are suitable for children aged 1 year +, so I think that one of these Philbins is going on my shopping list – my youngest niece is 1 year old just before Christmas. Perfect!
